#Ecw invasion 1997 series
Many inter-promotional matches occurred after the Invasion between The Alliance and the WWF, leading up to the climax of the angle at Survivor Series 2001, when Team WWF ( The Rock, Chris Jericho, Big Show, The Undertaker, and Kane) defeated Team Alliance (Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, and Shane McMahon) in a Winner-Take-All match. An Inaugural Brawl took place at the WWF Invasion pay-per-view, where Stone Cold Steve Austin defected and joined the Alliance. WCW and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) merged to make The Alliance and challenged the WWF's control over the wrestling industry. In June 2001, the storyline got more intense as more WWF storylines ended to make room for the central Invasion storyline. This led to many appearances of WCW wrestlers during RAW and SmackDown! after WrestleMania X-Seven. The storyline began when Vince McMahon's son, Shane McMahon, said on RAW that he bought WCW. The idea of a match showing the top 2 shows of the Monday Night Wars was considered to be a "dream match" show in the eyes of many fans, because it let fans to see which show would be superior. It involved the WCW wrestlers "invading" WWF television to try to "take over" the WWF. Heavy Metal, Pentagon, and Pierroth got the win in what was truly a missed opportunity to counter WCW’s amazing cruiserweight division. The Invasion was a wrestling storyline in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) that began after the WWF bought World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Any and everything was discussed during this match, everything except the match itself. The commentary team talked about her for more than a few minutes, even throwing back video highlights of her previous appearances on WWF TV, completely disregarding the match taking place. At one point, Brian Pillman appeared on the screen and cut a promo hyping his return. Jerry Lawler made a ton of jokes about AAA and ECW stars being less talented than the WWF Superstars, which didn’t help things.Ĭhyna, who had yet to be named Chyna, was also escorted out of the crowd during this match. WWE used this segment to promote other things on the show by way of giant graphics appearing on-screen while the action in the ring was taking place. These six men did some tremendous lucha things throughout this match, but the constant distractions that weren’t related to this segment kept it from being as great as it could have been. The segment closed with Sid and Taker facing off and apparently agreeing to join forces. Paul accused Taker and Sid of being afraid of Mankind and Vader, which led to all four men exchanging blows. Paul Bearer joined the party, accompanied by Mankind and Vader, Sid and Undertaker’s opponents for the evening. Taker said that he would be sure nothing happened to Sid tonight because Sid being injured would mean no title opportunity for Taker at WrestleMania, something he was not willing to let happen. The Undertaker made his way to the ring to respond, telling Sid that his logic didn’t make any sense (which is true, Sid never made any sense at any point in his career). Sid and Taker are set to face off for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania in 13 days. Sid rambled loudly about nothing, but the gist of what he was trying to say was that he refused to team with The Undertaker later in the evening. Jim Ross met him there for an interview, which isn’t really Sid’s strong suit but is somehow entertaining nonetheless. Sycho Sid made his way to the ring with the WWF Championship around his waist to kick off the show.
